Ettenhausen an der Suhl
Ettenhausen an der Suhl is a district of Bad Salzungen since July 2018 and is located approximately 10 kilometres north of the urban core, at the foot of thuringian forest in the Suhltal. The small settlement of Hetzeberg belongs to Ettenhausen.
The fortified church of Ettenhausen, a former fortress church, is the most famous building of the disctrict. In ist core are several historically protected timbered houses. At the borders of the area with Weißendiez, several historical boundary markers can be found.
A famous son of the village is August Stauch. 1878 he was born in Ettenhausen an der Suhl. Being sent to the colony Deutsch-Südwestafrika, Stauch became a multimillionaire in 1908 because of a sensational diamond discovery while working on a railway project in the Namib Desert. For his home community he donated new church bells.
Ettenhausen is one of the oldest places in the Wartburgkreis. In 2011 the community celebrated its 1225th anniversary with a large village festival.
