Directly next to the historical graduation house („Gradierwerk“) lies the salt- and saline museum.
The origin and extraction of this fascinating mineral and its application for cures are the focus of the exhibition. The richly sparkling brine springs once provided the panhandlers of Salzungen with wealth. Their healing power attracted spa guests from all over Europe.
There is a small boiling house in the museum garden. Show boiling takes place here in the summer half-year.
In the neighbouring drilling tower, a small exhibition provides information about the beginnings of potash mining and offers a view of the production facilities of the 27-percent Salzungen brine.
On request the museum also offers guided tours, exhibitions, school project days or educational offers for groups.
The Museum am Gradierwerk also includes the „Museum im Türmchen", which is dedicated primarily to the art of printing.
Opening hours
The museum is opened daily from 10 till 17 o’clock (except for the 24th, 25th and 31st of December as well as the 1st of January).
The show boiling takes place on every first Thursday of the month from April till October at 14 o’clock.

Accessibility
The museum is only conditionally barrier-free. There is an elevator in the house. The toilets are not wheelchair accessible. Well-equipped toilets are loceted in the „Gradierwerk“ next door.
